Eames RAR
The famous Eames Rocking (R) Arm (A) Chair on Rod (R) Base, abbreviated to RAR, emerged as one of the ‘original 5’ released in 1950. Collectors and homeowners have continued to favour this chair over the years.
Original rocking bases came in either zinc-plated or black oxide frames with Birch or Walnut runners. Original Eames RAR bases are now rarer and quite valuable. Famously, from 1968 to 1984, Herman Miller continued the tradition of giving a rocking chair to all employees with newborn babies. These chairs always featured upholstery in the receiver’s desired shell colour and included a personalised plaque.
